Start of Semester Tips for Faculty
Before Your First Class
- Import the UPDATED CPH Canvas Course Template: The template is required in all CPH Canvas courses. From the Commons area in Canvas, import the template to Canvas courses BEFORE adding content. New instructors, please send email to CPHIThelp to request access to the template. Instructions on importing the template are available on the CPH Canvas Template wiki page.
- Preview Your Classroom: To see photos and information about your classrooms use the CPH Classroom Lookup System (CLS). If you would like to schedule a training session, please contact CPHIThelp.
- Schedule In-Class Recording: To schedule your class to be automatically recorded using Panopto, submit requests using the Class Capture Request Form.
- Schedule Zoom Class Meetings from Canvas: To help students easily find class meeting links and recordings, follow the instructions in the Schedule Zoom Within Canvas How-To Guide on the CPH IT Wiki.
- Obtain Door Codes: Classrooms in STAR and Weiss 351 are locked and require door codes for access. Please contact Kris Scott at Kris.Scott@temple.edu for codes.
- Request a Video Consultation: If using video, consider scheduling a consultation with the CPH video specialist for ideas on creating engaging, professional-quality video content or requesting time in the CPH Recording Studio.
In the Classroom
- Use the Request Help Button: If technical assistance is needed, press Request Help on the touch panel then press Confirm. Alerts will be sent to the Classroom Technology Support team.
- Whenever possible, Use Classroom Computers: Computer equipment in instructor podiums has been updated with the latest versions of software and fully tested to function with the installed AV and recording equipment. When using a laptop, you may need an adapter; please contact your department.
- Bring Batteries: Some classrooms are equipped with clip-on (lavalier) or hand-held microphones. If you plan to use microphones, please bring 2 AA batteries, available from your department.
- Check the Mute button: Some classrooms default to volume MUTED on startup; please check that the device and microphone volumes are not muted.
